What is the EMSELLA® Chair?

EMSELLA® is a specially developed chair which helps treat urinary incontinence and pelvic floor issues as well as working to improve sexual health and sexual function, with a 95% satisfaction rate.

Incontinence is still one of the most taboo subjects across women’s health. Up to 40% of females suffer from urinary incontinence and bladder leakage. Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. Women who suffer from incontinence find it to be an uncomfortable and debilitating disorder. Many suffer in silence and are too embarrassed to seek medical advice. EMSELLA® chair is a breakthrough treatment for incontinence that is clinically proven to work. Two out of three of the patients treated with EMSELLA® reduced or totally eliminated the use of hygienic pads.

Pelvic floor muscles support pelvic floor organs and control continence. Due to the body’s normal aging, childbirth and menopause, pelvic floor muscles decondition and insufficiently support the pelvic floor.

Pelvic floor muscles support your pelvic organs, control continence, and play a crucial role in healthy sexual function. However, a large population of incontinent patients or patients with impaired sexual function, are unable to perform correct pelvic floor muscle contractions or Kegel’s due to the weakness.

HIFEM (High frequency electromagnetic) technology causes deep pelvic floor muscle stimulation to restore neuromuscular control and muscle strength. A single HIFEM session brings thousands of supramaximal contractions, which are extremely important in muscle re-education and strengthening. It does this by using electromagnetic signals to the pelvic muscles to strengthen and improve their function.

Patients can access the EMSELLA® treatment at our clinic with minimal down time or disruption to your everyday routine. A non-invasive procedure (keep your clothes on!), EMSELLA® treatments generally do not require any preparation or time off, meaning you can return to work immediately after the treatment.

How

How Does the EMSELLA® Chair Work?

EMSELLA is the HIFEM® procedure that utilises electromagnetic energy, at a high frequency, to cause pelvic floor muscle stimulation completely non-invasively. EMSELLA stimulates the entire pelvic floor muscles to deliver the equivalent of 11,200 pelvic floor supramaximal contractions over the 28-minute session. These are stronger and more effective than routine Kegel exercises.

What makes this treatment more effective than usual Kegel exercises is the in-depth penetration and stimulation of the entire pelvic floor area. It’s much more focused than your average Kegel exercise, meaning you see results a lot quicker than if you were to use exercises alone to treat the issue.

A single session brings you thousands of intense contractions that you would not be able to do on your own. These contractions are very helpful when it comes to muscle strengthening and re-education.

How Do I Use EMSELLA®?

You may have an initial consultation with our gynaecologist to discuss EMSELLA treatment, or you may go straight to the EMSELLA chair (prior to approval still by our gynaecologist). You can then be scheduled to use the EMSELLA chair at our purpose-built treatment room in our clinic.

On average, when you use the EMSELLA chair, patients can expect the treatment to take 28 minutes. Our patients say it is completely painless, the procedure feels like an intense pelvic floor workout.

The patient simply sits fully clothed in the EMSELLA chair for 28 minutes for six individual sessions, across three weeks.

How Long Before I See Results?

The best thing about using the EMSELLA chair is how quickly you’ll see results. While everyone is different, by using the EMSELLA chair, our patients have found a significant improvement in their symptoms.

The effectiveness of HIFEM EMSELLA has been shown to be superior to routine Kegel exercises in multiple studies to treat incontinence and intimate discomfort. You may observe improvement after a single session however this will typically continue improving over the next few weeks as your treatment progresses.
